Salina, NY — Early this morning at approximately 8:18 AM, a large box truck collided with the low railroad bridge on Onondaga Lake Parkway, near the village of Liverpool. The accident has prompted a complete closure of the parkway in both directions as emergency services work to assess the damage and clear the scene.

Updated Press Conference Report on Salina Officer Shooting

Key officials including Onondaga County Sheriff, Syracuse PD Chief Joseph Cecile, Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh, and County Executive Ryan McMahon have provided updated information on the tragic shooting incident in Salina.

Shooter and Victims Identified: The shooter, identified as 33-year-old Christopher Murphy, engaged in a confrontation that led to the deaths of SPD Officer Mike Jensen, who had been on the force for about two years, and Onondaga County Sheriff Deputy Hoosock, recently promoted to lieutenant and serving as watch commander and bomb squad commander since 2007.

Incident Timeline:

Around 7 PM Incident began with a grey Honda Civic, identified as suspicious by SPD officers.Officers attempted to stop the vehicle; driver sped away at over 100 MPH.Vehicle tracked to a home in the Salina area.Officers, along with Sheriff's deputies, arrived at the home.Upon arrival, officers heard suspect manipulating a gun, took cover.Suspect fired, killing two officers before being fatally shot by police.Lt. Hoosock was killed in the backyard after entering through a neighboring home; suspect then moved to the front to engage additional officers. The community mourns the loss of their officers as investigations continue. Further updates will be shared as more information becomes available. Report of Shots Fired and Stand-off in Liverpool

On Friday evening, the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Oswego Rd and Meyers Rd in Salina, NY. According to a 911 caller, they heard six shots in the area. Upon arrival, Sheriff's deputies investigated the area. Sources in the area reported that a man was shooting barrels in his yard and refused to come out. The Liverpool Police Department and Onondaga County Sheriff's office have multiple roads closed in the area. The police are still investigating the incident, and the public is advised to stay clear of the area until further notice.

Box Truck strikes OLP Bridge

A box truck traveling westbound on Onondaga Lake Parkway collided with the railroad bridge on Friday morning, causing the truck to slide into a ditch alongside the roadway. The incident occurred in Salina, NY, and the Sheriff's Office is currently on the scene. Crews are working to right the truck and remove it from the roadway. Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible and to exercise caution if driving in the vicinity. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.

False Report of Mass Shooting at Westhill High School in Onondaga County On Wednesday morning, a false report of a mass shooting at Westhill High School in the Town of Onondaga led to a police response. The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the report of mass casualties was false and there was no active shooter situation. The incident was a swatting call, which is a false 911 report, similar to what other schools have received. The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office is investigating the false report.

Tractor trailer collides with railway bridge on Onondaga Lake parkway

Yet another tractor-trailer collided with the railroad bridge on Onondaga Lake Parkway in Salina, NY, causing significant damage to the air diverter and exhaust of the tractor. The incident took place approximately 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday March 29th 2023. The truck was hauling a flatbed trailer with steel pipes that were not damaged in the collision. The incident occurred due to the driver missing the overheight vehicle signs. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. It is important for all drivers to pay attention to road signs and height restrictions to avoid such accidents.

Monday March 20th, a motor vehicle accident occurred on Onondaga Lake Parkway around 1 PM. A Tractor trailer traveling Westbound towards the village of Liverpool struck the railroad bridge over the parkway. Fortunately, the driver was not injured, according to the report from the scene. 

The impact of the tractor trailer colliding with the railroad bridge was significant, resulting in the destruction of the vehicle and scattering of its contents and pieces of the trailer. The force of the collision caused superficial damage to the bridge.

On the evening of March 19, 2023, a search and rescue operation was launched by the New York State Police, Apulia Fire Department, Lafayette Fire Department, and Fabius Fire Department, for a mother and her 7-year-old child who went missing in the area of Tinker Falls State Park. Reports suggested that the two might be in the water, possibly on a tree with their two dogs.
