Updated Press Conference Report on Salina Officer Shooting

Key officials including Onondaga County Sheriff, Syracuse PD Chief Joseph Cecile, Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh, and County Executive Ryan McMahon have provided updated information on the tragic shooting incident in Salina.

Shooter and Victims Identified: The shooter, identified as 33-year-old Christopher Murphy, engaged in a confrontation that led to the deaths of SPD Officer Mike Jensen, who had been on the force for about two years, and Onondaga County Sheriff Deputy Hoosock, recently promoted to lieutenant and serving as watch commander and bomb squad commander since 2007.

Incident Timeline:

Around 7 PM Incident began with a grey Honda Civic, identified as suspicious by SPD officers.Officers attempted to stop the vehicle; driver sped away at over 100 MPH.Vehicle tracked to a home in the Salina area.Officers, along with Sheriff's deputies, arrived at the home.Upon arrival, officers heard suspect manipulating a gun, took cover.Suspect fired, killing two officers before being fatally shot by police.Lt. Hoosock was killed in the backyard after entering through a neighboring home; suspect then moved to the front to engage additional officers. Report of Shots Fired and Stand-off in Liverpool

On Friday evening, the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Oswego Rd and Meyers Rd in Salina, NY. According to a 911 caller, they heard six shots in the area. Upon arrival, Sheriff's deputies investigated the area. Sources in the area reported that a man was shooting barrels in his yard and refused to come out. The Liverpool Police Department and Onondaga County Sheriff's office have multiple roads closed in the area. The police are still investigating the incident, and the public is advised to stay clear of the area until further notice.

Liverpool Fire Responds to House Fire

A residential fire broke out at 716 Libby St, Salina, NY on March 23, 2023, at around 5:57 PM. The Liverpool Fire Department responded to the scene and found that the fire was on the outside wall of the house, behind the siding. The firefighters quickly extinguished the flames and prevented the fire from spreading to the inside of the house. Liverpool Fire, requested National Grid report to the scene. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
